Один их двух (наряду с амниоцентезом amniocentesis) основных методов пренатальной цитогенетической и молекулярно-генетической диагностики, включает взятие небольшого кусочка (биопсия) ткани хориона chorion с помощью трансвагинального пластикового катетера; достоинства метода П.в.х. связаны с возможностью анализа кариотипа плода на ранних этапах беременности - в первом триместре trimester; впервые метод П.в.х. был разработан в 1968 Е.Мером, а регулярно в пренатальной диагностике начал применяться с середины 70-х.
